How I collect, use and protect your personal information, in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).

Who is responsible for your information
Johanna du Preez Attorneys is the responsible party for the personal information collected through this website, and the appointed Information Officer is Johanna du Preez. You can reach me at johanna@dupreez-attorneys.co.za or on 082 557 7382 for any privacy question or request.
As an attorney, the firm is also an Accountable Institution in terms of the Financial Intelligence Centre Act (FICA). This means I may be required to verify and keep certain identity information when I take on a matter.
What information I collect
I only collect what you choose to give me through the contact form, namely your name, email address, telephone number where you provide it and the details of your enquiry. My hosting provider also keeps standard server logs, such as IP addresses, for security and technical purposes.
Why I collect it
I use your information for one purpose, to respond to your enquiry and assist you with your matter. By sending an enquiry you consent to me using your details to contact you about it. I do not sell your information and I do not use it for marketing.
Cookies and website analytics
This website does not use tracking or advertising cookies. It loads fonts from Google Fonts, which may receive your IP address as part of serving those fonts. I use Cloudflare Web Analytics to see how many people visit and which pages they read. It sets no cookies, does not identify you and does not follow you to other websites. Cloudflare is an international provider, so this processing may happen outside South Africa.
Who else may process it
The contact form is handled by a third-party form service, which delivers your message to my email. My website is hosted by a South African hosting provider. These providers process your information only to deliver their service. Because the form service may process data on servers outside South Africa, your enquiry may be transferred across borders, and it is handled under appropriate safeguards.
How long I keep it
I keep your enquiry only as long as I need it to assist you and to meet my professional and legal obligations as an attorney, after which it is securely deleted.
How I protect it
Your enquiry is treated in the strictest confidence, as you would expect of an attorney. I take reasonable steps to keep your information secure and to limit access to it.
Your rights
Under POPIA you have the right to ask what information I hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, and to object to how it is used. To make any of these requests, contact me using the details above. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa.
Access to information (PAIA)
Under the Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA), you have the right to request access to records I hold. My PAIA manual explains how to make a request and what records are available. You can download the PAIA manual here.

I may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always appear on this page.
